Help & support
Getting started
On first use, a skippable three-page guide explains browsing, reading history and places. Reopen it in Settings > A little guide to your memories. Browse photo library goes directly to the iOS permission request. After permission, preparation and preloading run alongside the remaining guide; the guide does not add an artificial wait, play media or mark it as read. Tap Browse photo library on the Memories tab. On first use, iOS asks whether to allow all, selected or no photos. Swipe vertically to browse and switch between Immersive and Stories. Photos and videos that pass screening are added progressively as you browse. Media is cached on device as needed; readiness depends on media availability and network conditions. Excluded photos are never displayed just to fill a batch.
When a place does not update
The photo, place page and Settings share Apple place labels. After explicit consent, only the currently visible photo is looked up on demand after you pause, reusing valid results for identical coordinates and language. Other photos are not preloaded, and there are no batch or background place lookups. Tapping a place label first opens an on-device, two-column list of memories from the same place; choose Map and address to open the map page. A photo in the two-column list counts as read only when its image is ready, more than 60% is visible, and you pause on it in the foreground for the existing read threshold. Loading, quick scrolling and background time do not count. Video thumbnails do not count as reads; open a video and play it to meet the existing playback threshold. Earlier manual-only consent does not authorize automatic visible-photo lookups. Hiding labels pauses automatic lookups. Current-location permission cannot recover missing capture coordinates. Adjust photo access in system settings if needed. Offline or failed lookups preserve local labels and browsing without scanning the library or clearing read history.
No photos or slow loading
Check your photo-access scope, filters and whether images are stored on this iPhone. iCloud images may require internet; on-demand downloads can be toggled in Settings. Sensitive-content checks also take time. Retry after pausing or a timeout. When all eligible photos have been viewed, you can choose to revisit. Sensitive-content checks are never automatically disabled.
Why a new batch appears after reopening
Force-quitting or restarting prepares new memories instead of retaining the previously loaded queue. A short absence can resume your current page; returning after at least 30 minutes away prepares a fresh batch. Your reads, favorites, notes and settings remain, and normal recommendations still avoid reads according to your settings. Simply watching continuously for 30 minutes does not replace the current content. A lightweight memory animation appears when waiting is necessary, with a still indicator for Reduce Motion; actual iCloud download progress is shown separately when available.
Leaving clues after a playback stall
Note the approximate time and whether the stall happened during playback, seeking or swiping. When the app is responsive again, open Settings > Export troubleshooting logs to view or export local logs, then choose whether to share them with support using the system share sheet. You do not need to send photos, videos or notes. Diagnostics are on by default and can be turned off or cleared. They retain at most 2 MiB for up to seven days and never upload automatically. The final events before force-quitting or a crash may not reach disk; logs cannot guarantee that every stall is captured.
Do photos, notes and albums sync?
App favorites, private notes, user-authored tags and local album relationships stay in this app, do not sync across devices and do not change Apple Photos album membership. Apple's system settings control iCloud synchronization of originals. If iCloud Photos is enabled, an original photo or video you choose to delete and confirm with iOS is also deleted on other synced devices.
Deleting a photo or video
Open the photo or video’s three-dot More menu and choose to delete the original. The app goes directly to the sole iOS system deletion confirmation. Canceling keeps the original. This deletes the original in Apple Photos, not just this recommendation; with iCloud Photos enabled, the same item is deleted on other synced devices. If deleted by mistake, check Recently Deleted in Apple Photos promptly for recovery, usually within 30 days, subject to system rules. If you only want to see less of it, exclude it from recommendations instead of deleting the original.
Permissions and clearing records
Settings > Photo source > Open system settings lets you manage photo and location permissions. Settings > Data & privacy lets you clear local records. These actions do not replace one another. Clearing asks for confirmation and does not delete originals.
